Morning news anchor Bill Rehkopf joined KDKA in January 2008 from Baltimore’s WPOC. He'd been News Director for WPOC and several other local Clear Channel stations since 1999. Rehkopf was a co-host of the top-ranked Laurie DeYoung morning show during his tenure at WPOC. He received many Associated Press awards for his news coverage, including the “Outstanding News Operation” award over rival WBAL-AM. He was also a three-time winner of the “Best Newscaster” award in the March of Dimes Achievement In Radio (AIR) Awards. Rehkopf also covered stories of national importance in the Baltimore-Washington area for Clear Channel’s news and talk stations across the country, including the funeral of Ronald Reagan in 2004.
Prior to his arrival in Baltimore, Rehkopf was morning anchor at WHP in Harrisburg, and news director at WARM in Scranton. Rehkopf also ran news departments in Punxsutawney, Brookville and Clarion.
Rehkopf attended Clarion University’s School of Communication and Information Science. While a student at Clarion, he worked as News Director at the school’s WCUC-FM and served as a stringer for the KDKA News Network.
Rehkopf was born and raised in Murrysville, and is a graduate of Franklin Regional High School.
“When I was young, I'd listen to the likes of ‘Uncle Ed’ and Bill Steinbach and always dreamed I would one day work here,” he said. “I’m very mindful of the history that goes before me, and it’s a privilege to join those who call KDKA ‘home.’”
Rehkopf and his wife Carol have four children.
