First, let me thank the employees of Kuhn's and Mountaineer for sponsoring our coverage of the Pens! I arrived in New York last night, like the team and say what you want about NYC, it is impressive. Especially when you drive into Manhattan. I'm doing the sportscasts from CBS Radio headquarters, in the same room Walter Cronkite did the evening news.
I talked to a couple of Pens fans this morning who get together in Manhattan to watch the games. One is from New York, but his father is from Pittsburgh, another is a Churchill native who now lives in NYC. They have about 43 members in their group and I'm sure it's just one of many across the area. Both say people here don't know anything about our city, most still think it's a smoggy, mill town.
As you've heard, the Pens are winless here this season, but after finding different ways to win the first two games, who would bet against a sweep? They have all the pieces needed to win a Cup championship and can play a defensive game or offensive game and beat you at both. The defense is really underappreciated and not just the defenders, but the forwards helping on defense. Plus the penalty kill has become a momentum swinger for this team. Marc-Andre Fleury has been outstanding and Sidney Crosby, who had 4 hits in Sunday's win, is really picking up his game.
I'll return to update the blog with any information from morning skate and have the latest news during our afternoon sportscasts. |
