Senator Obama's "spread the wealth around' comment bothers me because it smacks of socialism. A listener sent me this which explains it all:
Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read, "Vote Obama, I need the money." This put a smile on my face. At least the poor soul is aware of current events.
Once in the restaurant, I noticed my server wore an "Obama 08" necktie, proudly displaying his political preference.
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server. I explained to him that I was exploring the very popular presidential candidate's "spreading the wealth" concept. He stood there in disbelief while I showed him a ten-dollar bill and told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone whom I deemed more in need: the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight!
I left the restaurant, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as it was determined "you could use the money more." The homeless guy seemed genuinely grateful. (This surprised me!)
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was appreciative for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was appalled and offended that I gave away the money he did earn... even though the actual recipient truly was in more desperate need of the assistance.
My conclusion: "spreading the wealth" is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application for anyone whom actually works for a living. Especially when our rents or mortgages are due and the car payment is late.
It is better for each of us, as individuals, to choose our charitable contributions and how and when we volunteer our services rather than having a bloated government agency making the decisions for us, taking our hard-earned money away.

JUST WONDERING-
I heard Senator Obama last night, outline the circumstances by which he would use military action against Iran. He said:
-he would not allow Iran to become nuclear
-to do so would endanger the region
-Iran would also supply nukes to terrorists and other bad guys
-all of this would be a threat to the U.S.
Hmmmm....these are all of the same reasons we invaded

The "community" group is accused of making up names and registering people to vote multiple times. The Economic Bailout Mess
As Congress is ready to approve the biggest bail-out in the nation's history, people are saying "where is mine, where is mine, where is mine?" Or if "you're bailing out Wall Street, what about Main Street?" If I hear that term one more time, I'm going to explode. The fact is, Main Street doesn't need a bail-out. Main Street (most Americans) are responsible. Most Americans don't over-extend themselves. Most Americans don't buy more house than they can afford. Most Americans don't take out loans they can't repay. That's the true Main Street. They don't need bailing out. They need to be respected...the Americans who follow the rules; play the game honestly and don't expect a hand-out from anybody. So as far as this bail-out is concerned, it STINKS because it disrespects the real Main Street!
